Darrin's sweet Grandpa Hendrickson passed away on Saturday. Grandma & Grandpa are the cutest lovebirds you ever did see. He is the only person in the entire world who I let call me Andy, and it honestly didn't bug me.
(I'm serious, don't any of you ever call me that. I hate it. Except from Grandpa.)When Darrin and I were dating in high school, the family invited me to travel to Richfield with them for Grandma & Grandpa's 50th wedding celebration. When Grandpa was giving a little speech at the lunch, he welcomed me to the family. It was a little funny & quite embarrassing, seeing as Darrin and I had been dating for only a few months and were still in high school...he must've known we were made for each other!
We will miss you, Grandpa and are blessed to have you as the patriarch of such a great family! And Grandma, we love you too and know you miss your sweetheart. We are praying for you!
Kenneth P. Hendrickson, 86, passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, in Monroe.
Born Dec. 4, 1923, in Glenwood, Kenneth was the youngest child of Niels Peter and Emma Pearl Bell Hendrickson.
On February 5, 1943, Kenneth married his eternal sweetheart, Doradean Ogden, in the Manti LDS temple.
Kenneth grew up in Glenwood and loved the Sevier Valley. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was an ardent Scouter and, in addition to other church callings, he served for 15 years as the Scoutmaster.
Kenneth loved his country. Like so many of his generation, Kenneth left behind his young wife to answer the call of duty and served faithfully in the Air Force during WWII.
He and Doradean chose to raise their six children in Richfield, where Kenneth co-owned and operated Hendrickson Welding and Machine for 55 plus years. He was hard-working, creative and industrious. He designed and built the railings on many homes in Richfield. As one of his last projects he built the beautiful ornamental gates of the Richfield Cemetery.
Kenneth cultivated a wonderful garden every spring. Working in his garden and tending to his apple tree brought him great joy. He had a generous spirit and loved to share his harvest with neighbors and friends.
Kenneth's testimony of the gospel always anchored and directed his life. He was a faithful man who taught by example. He often shared his testimony with his family, friends and associates. He lived true to the faith and expected others to do the same. There are many return missionaries, and temple marriages among his children and grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Doradean Ogden, Richfield; children, Dr. Raymond K (Diane) Hendrickson, Glenwood; Harold D (Kathleen) Hendrickson, Morgan Hill, Calif.; Cori (Don) Overson, Provo; Leon C Hendrickson, West Jordan; Dr. Ivan K. (Martha) Hendrickson, St. George; and Holly (Todd) McAllister; Richfield; 24 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters and four brothers; as well as one great-grandson.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, at noon, in the Richfield East LDS stake center, 800 North 500 East, Richfield. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield, Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the stake center on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30.
Interment will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military rites accorded by the VFW Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard.
